SRI LANKAN AIRFORCE BOMBS REFUGEE SETTLEMENT: 22 CIVILIANS KILLED IN
RETALIATORY ATTACKS
Twenty two Tamil refugees, including women, children and elderly, were
blown to pieces and thirty three persons were seriously injured when
combat aircrafts of the Sri Lankan Airforce launched a sudden and brutal
attack on civilian targets at Puthukudirrupu in Mullaitivu district of
northern Sri Lanka.
Widely regarded as a retaliatory attack for the humiliating military
debacle at Mannar this weekend where Sri Lankan army suffered heavy
losses in the ground battle, Sri Lankan airforce unleashed its vengeance
on innocent Tamil civilians in a refugee settlement and a market near
Puthukudirruppu. Israeli made Kfir supersonic aircrafts made a sudden,
swift and unprovoked attack on the refugee population who gathered at
the market place for morning shopping.
More than 50 huts of the refugee settlement were completely destroyed
and several shops at the adjoining market were razed to the ground. The
gory scene was littered with dismembered parts of human bodies of
children, women and elderly persons. The incident occurred at 10.30a.m
today.
