PULIYANKULAM UNDER SUSTAINED ATTACK
        Puliyankulam's western sector came under heavy fire early
        yesterday as Sinhala jet-bombers and artillery shells smashed up
        more of the town's residential areas. Shells were launched from
        the army encampment at Omanthai, a Tamil town which Sri Lankan
        forces recently invaded after frightening off the local
        population and flattening important buildings. Kfir jet-fighters
        also took part in Sri Lanka's raid on Puliyankulam yesterday,
        which began at 7.45 am. The airforce and army are exclusively
        Sinhalese; the towns they are pounding are all Tamil-inhabited;
        Sri Lanka says it is liberating the Tamil people.
