News from Tamil Eelam - 15 December 1997 BATTICALOA ARMY INCONVENIENCES BUS TRAVELLERS The Sri Lankan army in Batticaloa is stopping all buses and forcing checks on Tamil passengers. Travellers have complained about being stopped after travelling as little as 100 yards. Passengers are being routinely stopped at Kodaimunai bridge which is just past the main bus halt. GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES NEGLECT MULLAITIVU'S EDUCATION Mullaitivu's education department needs 36 clerks but only 7 are presently working due to government neglect. As a result many important projects are unable to proceed. The director of education has complained to the relevant authorities but no action has been taken. LTTE CASUALITIES LTTE Lt. Premkumar died on 3 December in a clash with Sinhalese armed forces in Kathankudi in Batticaloa.
