One Sinhalese soldier was killed while the rest fled. LTTE forces recovered the body of the dead soldier. There were no LTTE casualties. TWO SOLDIERS KILLED IN PULMODDAI Yesterday at 6:30 AM LTTE forces attacked the Arusimalai army camp in Pulmoddai, killing two Sri Lankan soldiers. There were no LTTE casualties, and some arms and ammunition were captured from the army.. LATEST LTTE CASUALTIES IN VANNI On Tuesday 9/12/97, 3 LTTE fighters died at Kanagarayankulam in a clash with occupying Sinhalese armed forces and 4 LTTE fighters died at Karipattamurippu in an unexpected clash with Sinhalese armed forces.. One LTTE fighter died after receiving serious injuries in last Thursday's battle with Sinhalese armed forces at Manankulam. TAMIL STUDENT KILLED BY ARMY A 19-year old Tamil student was killed when Sri Lankan police at Jayanthipuram (Batticaloa) opened fire on him. The student's name was Kirupananthan Arulnathan. He was killed on the way to his house. COLOMBO-BASED ARMY THREATENS TAMILS TO PROVIDE THEM FOOD The Sri Lankan army manning checkpoints in Colombo have forced local Tamil businesses to provide them with three meals a day and beverages. Tamil establishments have been threatened to bring these items directly to army checkpoints and have been ordered to be punctual or face the consequences. The armed forces do not pay for these services. TWO PREGNANT TAMIL WOMEN LOSE BABIES DUE TO SINHALA ARMY A 24-year old pregnant Tamil woman, Tharmalingam Yasotha, was travelling on a bus recently near Kaluthavai (in Batticaloa district) when a group of Sri Lankan soldiers, also on the bus, dropped a grenade near her. The woman suffered injuries and was taken to hospital, where her unborn baby was discovered to have died in the womb. Also, last Friday at Valaichchenai, Sri Lankan forces opened fire on Tamil civilians, injuring a pregnant mother named Thayalini. Thayalini's unborn baby had to be removed from her womb after bullets went through her stomach, killing the baby.
