August 1997 LTTE PRESS RELEASE NEWS FROM TAMIL EELAM NON-STOP SHELLING FROM ARMY AT NEDUNKERNI Sri Lankan armed forces occupying Nedunkerni on Tuesday launched a massive artillery assault on seven surrounding Tamil towns: Oddusuddan, Karipattamurippu, Kanakarayankulam, Kollarpuliyankulam, Karapukuthi, Mathiamadu and Puliyankulam. KFIRS STRIKE CIVILIAN TARGETS FOR THIRD DAY -- MULLAITIVU Sri Lankan warplanes are routinely roaring over Mullaitivu airspace and conducting bombing raids on Tamil civilian centres. For the third successive day Kfir bombers surveyed the region and then dropped bombs on clearly identified civilian dwellings, fishing boats and cattle. Afterwards, the planes headed back southwards. ELEPHANT PASS CAMP SHELLS CIVILIAN AREAS Three Sri Lankan artillery shells fell on Ilankopuram and another five on Visvamadu's 3rd colony Tuesday morning. The shells were fired from Sri Lanka's army camp at Elephant Pass. Although no one was hit, many frightened Tamil people fled due to fear, adding to the half a million Tamil people in Vanni already displaced by Sri Lankan military agression.
