August 1997 PRESS RELEASE NEWS FROM TAMIL EELAM LTTE ACQUIRES MILITARY INTELLIGENCE ON SRI LANKAN CASUALTIES Intelligence reports obtained from Sri Lanka's military high command confirm that 135 Sinhalese troops were killed - and over 400 injured - when LTTE forces breached the military's fortifications at Omanthai and Irampaikulam on Friday night. According to these reports, casualties sustained by Sri Lanka's armed forces break down as follows: Police force -- 66 Army -- 49 Navy -- 14 Airforce -- 6 TEEDOR MAKES DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE Residents of Mavadikulam (Puthukudiyiruppu) no longer have to walk miles to find water now that TEEDOR has invested part of its funds into deepening local dry water wells and ponds. Before TEEDOR's intervention people were trekking long distances to obtain water to drink and there was not enough water locally to graze cattle. TEEDOR is now working on further schemes to take the edge off Sri Lanka's deliberately-imposed hardships on Tamils in Vanni. TAMIL SCHOOL BURNT OUT The Kanakarayankulam maha vidyalam (school) and everything inside is completely burnt out from sustained Sri Lankan army shelling and aerial bombing. Mi24s and Kfir jets regularly targeted the school building which is now in ruins. Throughout their genocidal assault Sinhala armed forces have deliberately focused artillery and bombs on Tamil schools, places of worship and public buildings.
